Lower School (Key Stage 3) History

Description

At Cambridge Lower School, we believe that every student must possess a thorough, well-informed, and precise knowledge of the past. Our history curriculum is independent, well-rounded, and balanced. Students develop a natural curiosity and fascination for history, especially major world events. They also build connections between past events and contemporary happenings. This insight enables them to make sense of the world they live in and understand how it has altered over the centuries, and continues to alter presently.

Our MA/PhD qualified subject specialist teachers aim to deepen each student’s chronological knowledge, helping them understand British, local, and global history in a more nuanced manner. Our students reap the benefits of wider learning as they get a chance to explore different historical timelines and contexts. We use an individualised teaching approach to ensure that each student learns how to apply new historical knowledge appropriately.

Our teachers provide one-on-one attention to each student, which significantly fuels their interest in history. As students pursue the subject at the IGCSE or A Level junction, they already have the secure foundation that’s needed to secure top grades. As a result, they progress exceptionally well and build a balanced, comprehensive set of historical concepts, skills, and knowledge on top. We also equip each student with access to past lessons and historical resources. Our online library is up and running at all times, ready to be explored.

Assessment

We offer a range of assessments during our live lessons. These include summative tests, worksheets, pop quizzes, group activities, and more. Using these assignments, our teachers assess each student’s skills and knowledge.

Homework

Homework is given at the end of each week. Students get a chance to polish their skills and cover more ground. We plan homework around a range of different topics and subtopics, taking special care to cover everything in the syllabus.

About The Teacher

From Mrs. Perkins

I am Head of Biology at Cambridge Home School. I have a first class BSc in Biology and a Masters degree in Primate Conservation from Oxford University. I am also a qualified secondary school teacher with a PGCE.

Before becoming a teacher, I worked in a lot of animal environments such as a dairy farm and a Big Cat zoo. I also volunteered to go to a rainforest in Honduras, Central America to study the behaviour of black Howler monkeys.

I am passionate about Biology and love to share this with my students. There really is no better feeling than the satisfaction of watching young minds grow!
